【毕业·声】闫安祺：行我所行，无问西东 | IHP国际高中

初到国际体系时，我对一切都是陌生的，我对自己的英语水平也并不自信，而我们英语语言文学（ELA）课程的作业很多很难，这让我有点害怕。幸运的是，这门课的老师，Mr. Ripp总不断地鼓励我们，让我们大胆尝试突破，积极表达自己的想法。他始终相信每个学生都有潜力，只要引导得当，都能大放异彩。Mr. Ripp为我们创造了一个充分尊重个人观点和声音的环境，我们可以自由地就课堂内容或新闻事件发表自己的看法。他的课堂是一个充满活力的“苏格拉底式辩论”舞台，我们在其中钻研历史事件，探讨伟大的著作，研究小说的细节。他真正尊重每一位学生的意见，并支持我们从不同角度批判性地思考和理解问题。

When I first came to IHP, everything was new to me. I was not confident in my English and there were a lot of tough assignments in the course of ELA, which has made me a little afraid of it. Fortunately, Mr. Ripp, the teacher of this course, worked very hard to support us to try to break through ourselves and actively express our ideas. He always believed that every student had potential and that they could shine if properly guided. The classroom was an energetic arena for debates and "Socratic discussions" in which we drilled into historical events, explored great writings, and explored the details of novels. His real respect for each student's opinion popped out and he challenged us to think critically and comprehend topics from different perspectives.

在Mr. Ripp的课程设置和他不断的鼓舞下，我的学习成绩取得了很大的进步。除了成绩，他对我的影响还超越了课堂，不仅影响了我的学业，还影响了我看待问题和理解周围世界的态度。我曾独立撰写了一篇论文，探讨如何解决目前大众对LGBT群体的偏见。凭借我所学到的知识，我成功地给我所在的社区带去了积极的影响，为消除人们对社会身份的刻板印象作出了贡献。

Thanks to his curriculum setting and constant encouragement, I made great progress in my academic performance. Moreover, his effect went beyond the classroom, influencing not only my academic path but also my attitude of problem solving and comprehending the world around me. I have produced an independent paper on the possible solution to tackle the existing prejudice against the LGBT community. With my learned knowledge, I create a more healthy influence in my circles, focusing on eliminating stereotypes on social identity.

CCL北美微积分测评全国金奖、HiMCM美国高中生数学建模竞赛二等奖、GPA保持在年级数一数二...高中三年，我从未停止过努力的步伐。一路上，我成长了许多，也自信了许多。一场长途旅行，路途中或许会遇到坎坷和艰难，就像经历了无数次的陡坡和弯路。而正是这些挑战和困难磨砺了我们的意志，让我们更加坚强，我相信归来的时刻必定风光无限。

In this three years of high school, I never stopped working hard, so I have attained various awards and became more confident. In a long trip, the road may be full of bumps and difficulties, but It is these challenges that make us stronger.

曾经，我习惯于享受独处的时光，在电影中感受百态人生，在拼乐高积木的过程中创造属于自己的快乐。 而入读IHP后，学校丰富多彩的活动项目，让我逐渐发现并享受到了与人相处的乐趣。 在担任学生会宣传部部长期间，我需要与同学们共同筹备一场大型音乐演出，并邀请不同学校的乐队参与到活动中来。面对陌生的面孔，不善言辞的我内心充满了忐忑，但在我的努力下，我的耐心得到了回报，成功获得了七所学校的应允。

I was used to enjoying my time alone, but after joining IHP, the various activities of the school made me gradually discover and enjoy the fun of spending time with people. As the head of the student union's publicity department, I had to work with my classmates to prepare a large-scale music show and invite bands from different schools to participate in the event. I was not very good at speaking, but with my hard work, I managed to get seven schools to say yes.

此后，我像一只破茧成蝶的蝴蝶，开始勇敢地展翅飞翔。我积极尝试与不同的人进行交流，在一次次的经历中不断成长。我帮助视障儿童线上补习数学，与乡村贫困儿童互通书信，帮助宣传流浪狗，为它们寻找领养人...这一系列的公益活动让我看到了世界的另一面，也让我更加懂得同理心和社会责任感。

Since then, I have actively tried to communicate with different people. I taught math online for visually impaired children, exchanged letters with underprivileged children in the countryside, and helped stray dogs to find adopters. These public service activities allowed me to see another side of the world, and made me more empathetic and socially responsible.

我还参加了学校组织的美国研学项目，与来自世界各地的学生一起学习和生活。在那里，我感受到了多元文化的魅力，也收获了珍贵的友谊。我与同学们一起探索美国的自然风光，体验当地的风土人情，在欢声笑语中留下了美好的回忆。无论是采访患有智力障碍的店主，还是在街边派发传单。寻求路人填写问卷，种种的经历都让我学会了与人沟通，与团队合作，与更多美好的人和事相遇。

I also participated in the American summer school program organized by IHP, studying and living with students from all over the world. There, I felt the charm of the multiculturalism and gained precious friendships with others. No matter interviewing shopkeepers who have intellectual disabilities, or handing out flyers on the street, all of these experiences have taught me to communicate with people, work with teams, and meet with better things.

我与生俱来的好奇心驱使我去探究表象背后的东西。有些人可能觉得好玩，而我却看到了这些趋势潜在的社会影响。我觉得作为年轻人，我们有能力通过有意识地消费媒体和流行文化来影响我们的文化和社会。我不会盲目跟风，而是将时间投入到培养批判性思维和创造力的活动中去。我希望，通过果断的分析，我可以说服我的同龄人对他们认同的潮流进行更仔细的思考。这种审视和批判性评估周围世界，尤其是趋势和社会背景的能力是我所独有的。这是我与生俱来的特质，我非常珍惜并为自己拥有这种特质而感到高兴，并希望选择社会学作为我大学的主修专业。

My natural curiosity compels me to look behind the surface. I feel that as young people, we have the ability to affect our culture and society by being conscious consumers of media and pop culture. Rather than blindly following trends, I devote my time to activities that foster critical thinking and creativity. This instinctive ability to examine and critically evaluate the world around me, particularly in the context of trends and society, is unique to me. I truly cherish it and hope to choose the sociology as my major in university.

“无畏前路，无愧我心”这是我在申请阶段无意中在一本书中看到的标语。它坚定了我选择社会学这个学科的决心。在确定专业的过程中，曾有无数的长辈和老师惊讶于我的选择并告诉我社会学就业艰难，我也在无数个夜晚中纠结过，是我的家人告诉我就业不是我现时该考虑的问题，我的未来很近也很远。同时，我也在科研项目和线下实践中对这个学科越来越感兴趣。社会学不仅会加深我对社会构成的理解，也在推动着我不停地探索自己在社会中的位置。

"Fearless and Regretless" was a slogan that I accidentally read in a book. It strengthened my determination to choose sociology as my major. Even though I was told by many elders that it will be difficult to find a job, my parents support me. Besides, I love this major more and more due to my research projects and practice. Sociology not only deepens my understanding of what makes up society, but also pushes me to keep exploring my place.

不要让他人喧哗纷乱的见解淹没了自己内心的声音，最重要的是要有勇气去追逐自己的心，跟随自己的直觉。准备申请的过程对我来说是给自己一个机会，去感受、去历练、去改变、去认识自己。我也在申请和成长的过程中学会了感恩所有在我遇到困难时在我身边的家人、朋友和老师们。

Don't let the noisy and chaotic insights of others drown out your inner voice. The most important thing is to have the courage to chase your heart. The application process was an opportunity for me to know and change myself. I am grateful to all who have given me the support.
